Suining travel guide

Suining is a slow-paced, lively riverside city that is perfect for a relaxing weekend or a short family trip with kids. From Chengdu or Chongqing, both high-speed rail and self-driving take within 1-2 hours, making transportation very convenient. Here is a classic 3-day, 2-night itinerary and practical guide for you.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Zen Culture and Riverside Night Views

In the morning, head to Lingquan Temple and climb up for a panoramic view over Guanyin Lake. In the afternoon, visit Guangde Temple to experience the quiet atmosphere of this imperial Zen monastery. At dusk, stroll along the Xiniu Embankment walkway, ride the Suining Eye Ferris wheel to enjoy a beautiful sunset, and in the evening go to the night market on the Central Business District pedestrian street for local late-night snacks.

  • Day 2: National-Treasure Song Porcelain and Lakeside Island Cycling

In the morning, visit the Sichuan Song Porcelain Museum and admire the one-of-a-kind lotus-leaf-lidded jar. At noon, have a selection of snacks in the old town. In the afternoon, go to Shenglian Island, rent a bicycle, and cycle around the island; in summer, you can enjoy thousands of mu of lotus flowers. In the evening, take the free Fujiang River ferry and see the dazzling lights along both banks.

  • Day 3: Family Leisure or a Liquor-Culture Trip

If traveling with kids, go to the East Lake Peninsula Beach Park to play in the sand and water; MixC is nearby, making dining and shopping convenient. If you prefer culture, drive to Shehong City to visit the Tuopai Shede Cultural Tourism Area, experience century-old liquor-making craftsmanship, and then return.

Accommodation and Pitfall-Avoidance Tips

  • Where to Stay: Staying in Hedong New Area is recommended, especially near Wanda Plaza or MixC. Hotels there are newer and concentrated, close to the Song Porcelain Museum, and convenient for dining and shopping. If you like night views and night markets, choose somewhere near the Central Business District in Chuanshan District. Families with kids can consider the first Marriott hotel on Shenglian Island, which has a water park and a sika deer park.
  • Pitfall Reminders: The Song Porcelain Museum and the science and technology museum are closed on Mondays, so do not make a wasted trip. For bike rentals on Shenglian Island, it is better to rent near where you get off the boat, as prices are more reasonable. The Fujiang River ferry is a free local transport option and offers better value than sightseeing boats. The island is quite sunny in summer, so be sure to protect yourself from the sun; the best time to see the lotus flowers is July to August.
