Day 1: Citywalk Through Urban Culture and Local Life

• Morning: Head to Xishan Scenic Area for a hike and some fresh air. Stroll through Qile Ancient Village, and take the cable car for an overlook of Nanchong’s urban scenery. After descending, try authentic Nanchong rice noodles and freshly pressed sugarcane juice nearby.

• Afternoon: Visit Nanchong Museum (closed on Mondays) to learn about the city’s past and present through permanent exhibitions such as “Long Song of Jialing” and “Dreaming of the Three Kingdoms.” Then walk to Beihu Park for tea and a relaxed taste of local slow living.

• Dusk: Go to Baita Park to see the Ming-dynasty White Pagoda. Around dusk, the old-style night scenery is especially photogenic.

• Evening: Explore 1227 Night Market or Yixue Street Snack Street, and try affordable bites such as guokui stuffed with cold noodles and charcoal-grilled skewers while soaking up Nanchong’s lively nightlife.

Day 2: Thousand-Year Ancient City or Red Culture Tour

• Option A (History and Culture): Visit Langzhong Ancient City, stroll through its old-world streets and lanes, climb Zhongtian Tower and Huaguang Tower for panoramic views of the ancient city, and in the evening, you can also experience a Jialing River night cruise.

• Option B (Red Education): Visit Zhu De’s Former Residence, pay respects at the former home of the great leader, and experience the area’s strong revolutionary cultural heritage. The surrounding natural environment is also very beautiful.

Nanchong’s food is known for being spicy, aromatic, fresh, and great value. Rice noodles and guokui in particular are absolute must-try soul foods when visiting Nanchong.

Practical Transport and Pitfall-Avoidance Tips

• Transport: From Chengdu, the high-speed train takes about 1.5 hours, while the bus takes about 3.5 hours. Public transport in the city is well developed, taxis and shared bikes are convenient, and the urban attractions are well suited to a Citywalk.
• Where to Stay: Staying near Beihu Park or Wuxing Garden is recommended. Several attractions are within walking distance, and food streets are right downstairs, making dining and sightseeing very convenient.
• Reservation Reminder: Nanchong Museum is closed on Mondays, so it is best to reserve in advance on site or online. For the Zhang Lan Memorial Hall, you need to register at the security office before receiving a free commemorative ticket.
• Night View Recommendation: Be sure to take a walk along the Jialing River at night. The night views of the lighthouse, Qinghui Pavilion, and Xiazhongba Bridge are beautiful, with a bit of a “Little Chongqing” feel.
