The best time to visit is September to October, when Red Beach is at its reddest and the river crabs are at their fattest. A 2-3 day trip is recommended, with self-driving or a chartered car being the most convenient options.

Classic 3-Day, 2-Night Itinerary

  • Day 1: In the morning, head to the Red Beach National Scenic Corridor to see the spectacular red wetland landscape. In the afternoon, visit Reed Sea Crab Beach to experience local fishing-village culture. In the evening, enjoy steamed river crabs and barbecue in the city.

Practical Travel Tips

  • Transportation Advice: Panjin’s scenic areas are quite far apart, so self-driving or hiring a car is strongly recommended. If taking the high-speed rail, Shenyang to Panjin takes about 1 hour. After arriving, you can take a taxi or shared ride to the scenic areas.
  • What to Wear: Red Beach Scenic Area is large, so comfortable shoes are recommended. In autumn, the seaside is windy and the temperature difference between morning and evening is significant, so be sure to bring a windproof jacket. UV rays are strong on sunny days, so remember sun protection.
  • Pitfall Avoidance Guide: Be sure to check the tide times for Red Beach, as the red flats can only be seen at low tide. The sightseeing bus, priced at 35 yuan, is a must-buy, since the full route is 18 kilometers and walking it would be exhausting. When eating river crabs, it is best to pair them with ginger tea to counter their cooling nature.
