Must-Visit Attractions

  • China Korean Folk Customs Park: An excellent place to dress in hanbok and take “Yanji princess” photos. The thatched houses and covered bridge scenes are highly realistic. Arrive as soon as the park opens in the morning to avoid the crowds.

Transportation and Accommodation Tips

  • Long-Distance Transport: Prioritize flying into Changchun Longjia Airport, then transfer within the station to a high-speed train directly to Yanji West Station, about 3 hours. This is more cost-effective than flying directly to Yanji Airport. If driving, take the G12 Hunchun-Ulanhot Expressway; the route is straightforward.
  • Getting Around the City: Yanji has many one-way streets and confusing road planning, so renting a car in the city is not recommended. Taxis start at 5 yuan and are the most efficient option. Buses usually stop running around 18:00, so you will need to rely on taxis in the evening.
  • Where to Stay: Staying near the Yanbian University Internet-Famous Wall is recommended. It is lively at night, packed with food options, and convenient for reaching major attractions on foot or by taxi. During peak season, book half a month in advance, or prices may double.

Pitfall-Avoidance Notes

  • Water Market: Stalls close at 9:30, so you must get up early. If you arrive late, many stalls will already be gone.
  • Photos at the Folk Customs Park: Do not rent clothing from shops right at the entrance; it is cheaper outside. Re-entry to the park is not allowed, so bring everything you need before going in.
  • Buying Local Specialties: Do not buy ginseng or Korean cigarettes from roadside vendors, as inferior goods may be passed off as better ones. Buy specialties at West Market, but be sure to ask clearly about delivery fees to avoid hidden charges.
  • Portion Reminder: Portions in Yanji are large. For two people, 2-3 dishes are enough, so avoid over-ordering.
  • Weather and Clothing: From July to October, daytime temperatures are 25-30°C, but the temperature difference is large and there are frequent showers. Bring a hardshell jacket for Changbai Mountain, and carry sun protection and rain gear in the city.
