Practical Transport and Pitfall-Avoidance Tips
- Transport: Urban attractions are all within a 3 km radius, and shared electric scooters are the best way to get around (scan and go, about RMB 2.5 per 15 minutes). Driving is strongly discouraged during holidays, as the old town has narrow roads and parking is extremely difficult.
- Where to Stay: Staying near Qilou City or Wangcheng Plaza is recommended, as attractions and dining are concentrated there and it is easy to walk or ride around. If you have higher requirements for soundproofing and cleanliness, avoid hotels right in the center of the Qilou City pedestrian street and consider newer chain hotels in the Hexi area.
- Travel Notes: Most parks and indoor attractions close at 5 p.m., so go earlier in the day; be sure to visit Qilou City after the lights come on, as it feels completely different by day and by night; there are more mosquitoes in summer, so remember to bring mosquito repellent.
