Practical Tips to Avoid Pitfalls

  • Getting Around: Hengyang has no metro. In the city, you can take taxis or ride shared electric scooters. The most convenient way to get to Mount Hengshan, Nanyue, is by taxi from the city, or by taking the high-speed train from Hengyang East Railway Station to Hengshan West Railway Station, which takes only 13 minutes.
  • Where to Stay: It is recommended to stay in the city on the first night, around Jiefang Road or Shigu District, for convenient transportation; on the second night, stay near Nanyue District to make the next day’s mountain trip easier.
  • Mountain Gear: For Hengshan, be sure to bring athletic shoes, a trekking pole (RMB 2-5 each at the foot of the mountain), and a light shell jacket. The summit is much colder than the base, and you should also bring a fully sufficient power bank.
  • Ticket Reservations: Venues such as Shigu Academy are closed on Mondays. Mount Hengshan, Nanyue, requires advance reservation through “Nanyue One-Code Tour,” and the molten-iron fireworks performance may be canceled at short notice due to weather.
