Practical Travel Tips

  • Transport: After the Xi’an-Shiyan high-speed railway opens, it will take just 1 hour from Xi’an to Shiyan East Station. Attractions in the city are relatively spread out, so self-driving or taking taxis is recommended, as bus services are infrequent. Private cars cannot enter the core area of Wudang Mountain, so you need to transfer to a sightseeing bus.
  • Accommodation: It is recommended to stay in Shiyan city center, around the Wuyan/Liuyan area, or in Wudangshan Town. These options offer better value than staying inside the scenic area. Book ahead during peak season.
  • Tickets: Wudang Mountain tickets cost 264 yuan and are valid for 3 days. Buying tickets online in advance is recommended. Some scenic areas offer discounts for high-speed rail passengers.
  • What to Wear: Wear comfortable athletic shoes, as Wudang Mountain has many steps and some steep sections. Temperatures differ greatly between morning and evening on the mountain, so bring a light jacket.
  • Avoid Pitfalls: Do not trust low-price unlicensed guides at scenic area entrances, do not step on the thresholds of Taoist temples, and do not accept “free incense” offered by the roadside.
